Law webrings are comprised of legal sites with a common interest (bankruptcy law, e.g.), so it allows those sites to potentially broaden their audience by linking with each other. This is a form of free advertising, much like bartering and banner exchange programs.

Law webrings can be facilitated by centralised databases which ensure the integrity of the ring is not lost if a single member ceases hosting their content. Generally, users can navigate forwards, backwards, skipping a certain number of sites, visit sites randomly, or see a list of all the sites on the ring. Legal web rings are a way for law related web sites to generate more traffic by encouraging users to visit the other sites within the ring. Sites in the ring typically have an icon or graphic that indicates that it is part of a specific legal ring.
